State of the State: Eric Holcomb – All Talk, No Action on COVID-19

The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today criticized Governor Eric Holcomb for his tepid response to the COVID-19 pandemic for the state of Indiana. Holcomb’s refusal to install a legitimate mask mandate (for political reasons) and his choice to lift state protections prematurely last summer resulted in a surge of COVID-19 cases over the fall and unnecessarily cost Hoosier lives.

Governor Holcomb will try to project success in his State of the State Address this evening, but the receipts speak for themselves and shows an unwillingness by Holcomb to adjust the state’s response to the “facts on the ground”. Instead, Holcomb’s actions show he was just following orders from Washington, D.C. Holcomb described his relationship as a “partnership” and being “helpful to Indiana”. Outgoing Vice President Mike Pence even went out of his way to praise Governor Holcomb for lifting protections prematurely.

Simply put: There is little difference between Donald Trump and Eric Holcomb’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s why Holcomb has effectively given up on any action but the vaccine.

“Governor Holcomb buckled to fringe ideology and the demands from a failed U.S. President, so why should Hoosiers have faith in any of the Governor’s pandemic recommendations when he’s proved to be a politician who’s all talk with no action?” said Drew Anderson, spokesman for the Indiana Democratic Party. “Hoosiers have thankfully begun to receive their vaccinations, however, with a new more contagious COVID-19 strain in the state, Indiana needs an all-encompassing approach to fully squash the virus for good. But, Holcomb has refused — that’s not a ‘success’.”
