New Indy Star report shows that even in his latest ad, Rep. Braun can’t hide from the truth about the Chinese-made products he sells

INDIANAPOLIS – Rep. Braun literally walks past the logos of manufacturers that produce their goods in China whose parts he sells in his latest ad, a new report from the Indy Star shows, demonstrating he’s taking his willingness to mislead Hoosiers about his company’s character to new extremes.

Rep. Braun’s latest ad is another attempt to defend his company and hide its ties to foreign manufacturers. Yet as the Star noted this morning, the two companies whose logos are visible in the first shot of Rep. Braun’s ad – Fox Shox and Warn Industries – manufacture their products in Taiwan and China. Both companies have each received thousands of shipments of imports from China and Taiwan since 2006. They’re responsible for some of the $18 million that Rep. Braun himself made last year alone from selling auto parts that were imported at the expense of Hoosier workers.

Rep. Braun’s continued problem with selling parts from foreign manufacturers isn’t the only problem with the ad. It also fails to mention that his company has racked up a litany of lawsuits and hundreds of workplace violations alleging he fails to pay employees what they’ve earned, denies them breaks and forces them to work dangerously long hours.

Additionally, Rep. Braun once again repeated the false statement that he pays his employees “nearly double the minimum wage.” Jobs listed on Meyer’s website advertise wages between $11 or $12 an hour, well under the $14.50 he would be claiming he pays.

“Rep. Braun’s latest ad is proof that he couldn’t hit the broad side of a truck with the truth if he tried,” said Michael Feldman, spokesman for the Indiana Democratic Party. “Hoosiers know that Rep. Braun’s business history is one of selling out American workers in favor of cheap foreign parts – even when he’s not promoting the logos of foreign manufacturers in his ads. His continued failed attempts to mislead voters over his business practices and worker treatment show he’s more interested in running from his business record than running on it.”
