FIELD MANAGER

Position Summary:  

The Field Manager will manage the statewide coordinated table activity and build a data-driven voter mobilization program through the implementation of a targeted direct voter contact and voter protection effort through November 15, 2020.  

The Field Manager should be skilled in managing multiple, competing priorities simultaneously while maintaining a sharp focus on details. The person in this position will work with an intense schedule, including nights and weekends, and must have access to a laptop and reliable car transportation. The Field Manager will report regularly to the IDP Chairperson and Executive Director, collaborate with the entire Party team and manage the Field Organizer(s). They are responsible for planning and maintaining the coordinated table field plan, managing field staff, the party’s voter protection program and accountable for all quantitative and qualitative field metrics.  

Qualifications and Requirements: 

• Understanding of targeting and metrics; 

• Have at least two cycles of field experience; 

• Experience recruiting, hiring, training and managing a team; 

• Commitment to establishing a culture of inclusivity, respect and community; 

• Proficiency in VAN, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Docs; 

• Experience developing, training and empowering volunteers; 

• Previously held Field Organizer, Regional Field Director or Field Director positions; 

• Frequent travel required (when appropriate and in accordance with safe Covid-19 precautions); Access to a vehicle; 

Other duties as needed

FIELD ORGANIZERS

Position Summary:  

Field Organizers will work closely with IDP field leadership and will be responsible for recruiting, training, and managing volunteers to expand the volunteer network for the campaign through November 15, 2020.  Field Organizers will manage and execute voter contact tactics such as phone banks, text banks, canvasses, voter registration drives, and visibility events. Please note, these tactics will vary based on the environment related to COVID-19 that we will be working in. Field Organizers should be high energy, outgoing, and enthusiastic.  

Qualifications:  

  • Organizational skills and ability to meet strict deadlines 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Commitment to the election of Democrats up and down the ballot  
  • Adaptable to changing needs and program priorities 
  • Positive attitude required 
  • Previous political campaign experience a plus

DATA DIRECTOR

The Opportunity: The Indiana Democratic Party (IDP) seeks a full-time Data Director to manage the day-to-day voter file needs of the State Party, county party organizations, state and federal campaigns, and activists. The position will work across departments and with the DNC to use data to provide insight and guidance to our statewide efforts.  The Data Director will fulfill their duties with the support of the Deputy Data Director. This position will report directly to the IDP Chair and is solely responsible for administering the statewide voter file database for the Party. The location of this position is negotiable during the COVID-19 pandemic.  

Responsibilities Include: 

  • Maintaining the State Party My Campaign database; 
  • Providing timely and relevant analysis of data and fielding requests for specialized research projects, in many cases requiring rapid turnaround; 
  • Tracking and disseminating analysis of voter contact results, early vote and absentee turnout, voter registration, and other data relevant to campaigns and caucuses; 
  • Collecting raw political data from County Boards of Elections and other sources and converting it to usable form for analysis; scrubbing and matching acquired lists back to the voter file (VoteBuilder or offline). 
  • Maintaining Indiana’s Voter File (VAN) in partnership with the DNC 
  • Providing real time customer support for candidates, candidate committees, county officers, and other VAN users 
  • Creating user VAN accounts and committees 
  • Creating and establishing training programs for the VAN, which will include travel across the state 
  • Keeping Party staff abreast of technological advances and issues in counties 
  • Must be able to work independently to accomplish tasks 
  • Must be able to work evening and weekend hours 
  • Provide a supporting role to our Coordinated Program for 2020 
  • Provide prompt customer service to VAN users, including approving exports and solving user problems 
  • Implementing a system to create and track user access to the VAN 
  • Must be proficient in Excel and Excel formulas 
  • Efficient time management skills 
  • Organized 
  • Must be able to work quickly under pressure  
  • Day-to-day management of users and committees in VoteBuilder; 
  • Developing and implementing a training program for VoteBuilder statewide in conjunction with the Field Department, including a regular webinar schedule; 
  • Maintaining an inventory of all data assets; 
  • Creating and maintaining survey questions, activist codes and other VoteBuilder infrastructure; 
  • Creating all shared searches and targets; 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience conducting webinars 
  • Growth mindset: ability to take and implement feedback 
  • Customer Service experience 
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including explaining data and analyses in understandable terms to an audience of varying technical understanding 
  • At least two cycles of prior campaign experience preferred 
  • Demonstrated data analysis and writing skills, preferably in a political environment 
  • Ability to plan and manage time sensitive projects with competing needs 
  • Working knowledge of statistical models, precinct targeting, etc. is beneficial 
  • Knowledge and familiarity with VAN 
  • Knowledge of Excel including formulas, functions, and pivot tables 
  • Knowledge of SQL including creating queries and manipulating large data sets 
  • Familiarity with GIS preferred but not required 
  • Experience standardizing data from multiple sources to produce complex reports 
  • Strong attention to detail, including accuracy of data entry 
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively 

Preferred Education and Experience 

The successful candidate holds a degree from a four-year college and has a minimum one to two cycles of data experience.
