ICYMI: Jim Banks voted to overturn the 2020 presidential election results
ICYMI: Banks encouraged Americans to show up at the Capitol in January, demanded that things “can’t back to ‘normal’”
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today opposed the selection of U.S. Congressman Jim Banks to serve on the upcoming House select-committee on the January 6 Insurrection. Indiana Democrats view Banks’s selection as a partisan stunt to collude against the committee, which is focused on solving the domestic terrorist attack, because of Banks’s record itself — which includes encouraging Americans to show up to the Capitol on January 6 and voting to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. We believe this is disqualifying for any legitimate elected official who cares about the national security of the United States.
Simply put: Congressman Jim Banks is a partisan demagogue who’d rather peddle misinformation and conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election and the January 6 Insurrection than actually get to the bottom of the events leading up to the domestic terrorist attack.
“Jim Banks’s legitimacy on the House select-committee is as legitimate as Peyton Manning starting for the New England Patriots: it is just ridiculous. Banks is as responsible for the domestic terrorist attack on the U.S. Capitol as other Republican Party leaders, because he voted to end American democracy and then encouraged insurrectionists to show up at the U.S. Capitol just hours before one of the country’s darkest days occurred,” said Lauren Ganapini, executive director of the Indiana Democratic Party. “There’s no doubt Jim Banks will try to collude with this select committee and, like the rest of the Indiana Republican Party, Banks is once again proving to be leading a political party with no identity and a partisan agenda that denies Hoosiers the opportunity at a better future.”
Congressman Jim Banks isn’t just a partisan demagogue, he’s also voted against the future of Indiana and its families. The Congressman opposed the American Rescue Plan and the opportunity it’s giving Hoosiers to put COVID-19 in the rearview mirror. This includes Banks’s vote to defund law enforcement across the nation. In fact, Banks skipped out on the vote to pass the Rescue Plan altogether in order to attend the Republicans’ fanclub convention known as CPAC – citing the “public health emergency” as a reason to bail on delivering millions in relief to Hoosier families. And despite helping former President Donald Trump add $7.8 trillion to the national debt, Banks is hedging against the upcoming American Jobs Plan due to the price tag.
