INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party and the Marion County Democratic Party released the following statement following the 2023 Mayoral Primary elections in Indianapolis. Incumbent Mayor Joe Hogsett was renominated for a third term:

“Tonight’s results indicate Indianapolis Democrats are energized and are ready to reelect Mayor Joe Hogsett to a third term in November,” said Indiana Democratic Party Vice Chair and Marion County Democratic Chairwoman Myla Eldridge. “Jefferson Shreve’s message is already falling short. After spending more than $2 million on Trump-style ads promoting his right-wing agenda, less than thirty thousand Republican ballots were cast on Election Day compared to a historic forty-five thousand Democratic ballots. Jefferson’s platform may resonate with hardcore conservatives, but it’s clear Indianapolis voters aren’t interested.”

Marion County voters do not want a Donald Trump surrogate in city hall. Conservative Republican and ‘A’ rated NRA member Jefferson Shreve is simply wrong for Indianapolis. Voters will see through the millions he’ll use to self-fund his campaign and reject his ideas that will put more illegal guns on the streets and create an administration that looks nothing like the diversity of Indianapolis.

Democratic primary voters backed Mayor Hogsett because he is supporting our first responders and creating a city that welcomes all.”
