Our Delegate Selection Plan
Each Democratic State Party is tasked with writing a Delegate Selection Plan in order to guide the process of allocating and selecting delegates each presidential cycle.
Indiana’s framework to send delegates to the 2020 Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee was approved by a unanimous vote of the Indiana Democratic Party State Central Committee. Indiana’s plan was the first state to be declared in full compliance by the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee.

Step 1: Pick who you wish to vote for in the May 5, 2020 presidential primary
National Delegates must pledge support to one candidate when filling out their forms to become a delegate.
Step 2: Volunteer with the campaign
Work with your candidate’s campaign to boost their message in Indiana! You can help your candidate collect petitions to get on the ballot, volunteer to make calls or knock on doors, donate to your favorite candidate, or any other organizing activities. The more votes they receive in the primary, the more delegates they will be allotted!
A presidential candidate must receive at least 15% of the vote in each congressional district to be allotted any district-level delegates and 15% of the vote statewide to be allotted any at-large delegates
Step 3: File to become a National Delegate
You can file to become a national delegate starting May 1, 2020 at 9 AM EST through June 1, 2020 12PM EST.

Step 4: Campaign to be elected
All National Delegates will be selected on June 13, 2020 at the Indiana Democratic State Convention. Only state delegates to the Indiana Democratic State Convention will be able to vote! Spend the time leading up to the convention engaging with Democrats in your county, campaigning for yourself, and fundraising to help you get to convention.
State Delegates are either elected on the May 5, 2020 primary ballot or by appointment after the primary by the county chair (if vacancies exist). Individuals may file to run for State Delegate by completing a CAN-37 form with their county clerk between January 8, 2020 and February 7, 2020 (noon)
There is no fee associated with becoming a National Delegate, there are just costs associated with travel and accommodations.
Step 5: Head to Milwaukee!
Head to Milwaukee for the convention to represent Indiana and experience the nomination of our next President!
