As Cases Rise Across Indiana, Gov. Holcomb Forfeits Weekly COVID-19 Press Conferences

Holcomb Last Week: “Holcomb: this is by no means a ‘mission accomplished’ moment. This is a ‘proceed with caution’ moment.”

Indiana This Week: “…the 7-day positivity rate has increased 36%. The 7-day average of people in hospitals w/COVID-19 has increased 13 consecutive days, rising 17% in that span”

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today criticized Governor Eric Holcomb for giving up his weekly COVID-19 press conferences just as Indiana begins to experience yet another spike in coronavirus cases. Holcomb is putting his politics ahead of science, facts, and his duties as Governor, and instead is creating a moment he promised wouldn’t happen. This decision to rush Indiana out of COVID-19 is not only irresponsible, but it’s set to bring further damage to the state as more Hoosiers will inevitably get sick — or worse.

The Indiana Democratic Party knows the entire situation could’ve been prevented had Governor Holcomb brushed off his political party’s hyper partisan demands and instead governed with a common-sense, fact-based approach. This rhetorical grandstanding by the Indiana Republican Party is why Hoosiers are losing trust in them to look after the best interests of Indiana and its families.

Indiana This Week…

Micah Pollak, Economist: “Less than 48 hours before #Indiana removes the mask mandate and all #COVID19 restrictions, the 7-day average of daily new cases is back up over 1,000/day again and rising (was as low as 726/day in March). Hospitalizations are up too.”

Indiana Public Media: “Two weeks ago, Gov. Eric Holcomb announced he would end all statewide COVID-19 restrictions, effective today.

Since then, the 7-day positivity rate has increased 36%.

The 7-day average of people in hospitals w/COVID-19 has increased 13 consecutive days, rising 17% in that span”

WIBC: “669 new Indiana #coronavirus cases, with 3.9% of today’s batch of tests coming back positive. The 7-day positivity rate, which runs a week behind, rises for a second straight day, to 4.5%, highest since Feb 18. It’s risen or stayed flat 24 straight days after a 60-day decline.”
