ZODY: Republicans block redistricting reform

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Democratic Party Chairman John Zody released the following statement after House Republicans denied a vote on House Bill 1014 late Wednesday afternoon.

“Redistricting reform is fundamentally about fairness. Hoosiers deserve political representation that reflects the communities they live in. Today’s system is a distortion, carefully manufactured to generate political advantage and maintain control where our elected leaders choose their voters. It should be the other way around. Gerrymandering leaves many Hoosiers without a political voice. It needlessly divides communities of interest. It gives rise to misguided policies that drive ideology instead of progress. And, It fuels Hoosiers’ frustration with politics as usual. Hoosiers are rightfully distrustful of a system where politicians write rules that directly benefit their political future.”
