STATEMENT: Trump’s refugee ban 2.0 still an affront to the American tradition

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Democratic Party Chairman John Zody released the following statement after the Trump administration quietly released a revised refugee travel ban.

“A founding principle of our country has been to welcome the persecuted, victimized and those seeking refuge. Americans’ willingness to lend a hand to refugees today is underpinned by the knowledge that not long ago, our ancestors took to the United States seeking the same opportunity and safety. To place limits on this American tradition, as Donald Trump has now done twice, demands clear and specific reasons. Trump has failed on this account, and the courts have acted to block his nakedly political actions before. It seems again politics are at play as Trump delayed the release of this ban last week to maximize positive coverage of his congressional address. Americans deserve better.”
