Democratic presidential candidates to attend Jefferson Jackson Day Dinner

Clinton, Obama to both offer remarks at event on May 4

INDIANAPOLIS - Even as the final votes are being cast in the Pennsylvania primary, the eyes of the nation are already turning toward Indiana, where today the campaigns of both Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama confirmed that they will make an appearance at the annual Jefferson Jackson Day Dinner.

The event, scheduled for Sunday, May 4, will feature special guest speaker DNC Chairman Governor Howard Dean, and the addition of both Democratic presidential candidates assures that this year's dinner will be a memorable one.

Indiana Democratic Party Chair Dan Parker said the joint appearance will provide an excellent opportunity for both Senators Clinton and Obama to make a final appeal to voters just two days before the primary.

"There is no denying the excitement that Hoosier Democrats are feeling right now, and this will only add to the enthusiasm as we look to the May 6th primary and beyond," Parker said.

"Senator Clinton is happy to accept the Indiana Democratic Party's invitation for the May 4 Jefferson-Jackson Dinner," said Robby Mook, the State Director of Hoosiers for Hillary. "She is excited to have the chance to meet with hundreds of party activists and supporters from around the state, and speak with them about her plans to tackle this tough economy, fight for Hoosier jobs and restore the middle class."

"The Jefferson-Jackson dinner is a long tradition for Hoosier Democrats and one that Senator Clinton looks forward to being a part of this year," Mook added.

Mitch Stewart, Indiana State Director for Obama for America, said "Senator Obama looks forward to the opportunity to talk to Hoosiers about his plans to deliver change Indiana voters can believe in - delivering universal health care, turning around our economy and bringing our combat troops home from Iraq."

"We're thrilled that both of these candidates have chosen to take the time out of their busy schedules to share an evening with so many Hoosier Democrats and help the State Party finances."

The event is soldout, but those interested in being placed on a waiting list for tickets may call the IDP at 1-800-223-3387.  Press interested in attending will need to be credentialed by the IDP and need to call 317-261-3826.
