Statement from Indiana Democratic Party Chair Dan Parker on
Gov. Daniels' state budget remarks
"After six months on the sidelines, I think we are all thankful that Governor Daniels has finally joined the discussion over this year's budget proposal.
"Still, so many things have been left unanswered, and this proposal makes the governor look like a walking, talking contradiction.
"Just one month ago, Mitch Daniels threatened to veto any budget that dipped into the state reserves, and yet tonight we find out that his own budget plan does just that. He's flip-flopped on everything from federal stimulus dollars to funding higher education.
"The fact of the matter is that Governor Daniels has moved the goalposts so many times, it's hard to tell where the playing field is anymore. What has changed so dramatically in the last month, and why can't we know about it?
"With the CIB crisis still looming on the horizon, I think we have all been left with more questions than answers about where Mitch Daniels stands on countless issues facing this state and this legislature. As with all such plans, the devil will be in the details, and unfortunately we received very few tonight."
