Statement by Indiana Democratic Party Chair Dan Parker

on State Treasurer Richard Mourdock and Chrysler sale

INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana Democratic Party Chair Dan Parker released the following statement in reaction to the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to allow the sale of Chrysler's assets:

"Today marks a loss for Richard Mourdock, and a victory for Hoosier jobs. Thankfully, thousands of Hoosiers will wake up tomorrow and know that their positions and pensions are still there.

"From the beginning, this lawsuit was more about Richard Mourdock's political crusade against President Barack Obama than it was anything else. Mr. Mourdock had an axe to grind, and he was able to indulge himself on the taxpayer dime. In doing so, he endangered tens of thousands across Indiana who depend on Chrysler.

"Worse yet, Richard Mourdock refused the services of the state Attorney General throughout this process, opting instead for high-priced, out-of-state attorneys. With reports estimating that the cost of this fiasco approaches two million dollars, I think Hoosier taxpayers are owed an explanation of how much was spent on Mourdock's Folly.

"Now that this partisan distraction has been put to rest, it's time for some real accountability. That begins with a full accounting of the costs associated with the state's contestation of the Chrysler sale.

"Hoosier taxpayers have plenty of questions for Mr. Mourdock, and they are ready for answers."
