Parker calls on Mourdock to end political crusade against President Obama

With 4,000 Hoosier jobs on the line, games must end

INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana Democratic Party Chair Dan Parker today called on Indiana Treasurer Richard Mourdock to cease his partisan campaign against the federal government and start working to protect Hoosier jobs.

"By continuing to waste taxpayer money on his personal political crusade, Richard Mourdock is endangering thousands of hardworking Hoosier families that depend on Chrysler jobs," Parker said. "It's time for Mr. Mourdock to quit playing games and start taking responsibility for his own actions."

Mourdock has used his publicly-funded office to pursue legal action against Chrysler, effectively delaying the sale of the automotive company and bringing into question the future of 4,000 current Hoosier-based Chrysler positions and the pensions of thousands more.

"This is nothing but an elaborate, partisan distraction from the real questions that Hoosiers are asking about Mourdock's mismanagement of taxpayer dollars," Parker added. "While President Barack Obama works to create new jobs, Richard Mourdock seems more concerned with covering his own tracks."

An annual report issued by the State Treasurer's office in June of 2008 revealed that under Richard Mourdock's watch, the Indiana State Police Pension Trust lost nearly $21 million in interest, a 5.5% negative yield.

"Mr. Mourdock seems to want to play the part of Don Quixote with our money, but Hoosier taxpayers and Chrysler workers in this state can't afford to tilt at his windmills any longer," Parker said.
