Statement from Indiana Democratic Party Chair Dan Parker on the "State of the State" address

"Mitch Daniels delivered a lovely version of revisionist history to the people of Indiana tonight, but he failed to take into account his own record on property taxes, job growth and outsourcing.

"Mitch Daniels wants to take credit for all the good while ignoring his past. This is the same Governor who endorsed the 2005 Republican budget that capped property tax relief for homeowners, flat-lined state education spending and dumped an enormous burden on local governments.

"Mitch Daniels signed that budget, and he knew the effect it would have on homeowners then. Yet for three years, he's done nothing to help the matter.

"Meanwhile, average working Hoosiers are losing their jobs and benefits. They're unable to pay their taxes. They're unable to pay their mortgages. And they're watching as state government sends billions in taxpayer dollars to out-of-state companies. But to hear Mitch Daniels spin it, we're living in a land of chocolate rivers and unicorns.

"Hoosiers know better. They know we can do better, and they know that it will take real leadership, not last-minute election year politicking, to dig us out of this ditch."
