DYNGUS DAY/SOLIDARITY DAY (County Event)
This is an early notice of what could be the most exciting Dyngus Day in South Bend since 1968 when Bobby Kennedy came to town. The Democratic presidential race is neck and neck and all signs point to a battle right up to the convention in Denver. Indiana's primary on May 6th could be instrumental in a race for delegates but first there is Dyngus Day/Solidarity Day.

Dyngus Day/Solidarity Day 2008 will be held on March 24th. The sausage starts cooking early in the morning with a guest cook occasionally stopping by (in past years this has included Congressman Joe Donnelly and Governor Joe Kernan). The real excitement is around noon when the elected officials, candidates and special guests arrive and speak to the crowd. The Westside Democratic and Civic Club on the west side of South Bend has been the traditional home of Dyngus Day for decades and is always packed for Dyngus Day. Those interested in coming should come early, at least by 10:30 AM, to get in, get a sausage sandwich and a beer and get a seat for the festivities.

Solidarity Day festivities recognize the contributions of the African-American and Hispanic communities and their role in Democratic politics in South Bend. Solidarity Day events are held at various locations around South Bend, usually following the Westside Club event.

*There is a chance that high ranking representatives of the Clinton and Obama campaigns could visit South Bend on Dyngus Day this year!*

*This year, more than ever, it will be important to get to the Club EARLY as there will be more people than ever before. I would suggest getting to the Club around 9-10am. By the time the speakers take the stage around noon, it will literally be standing room only*
