Pete Buttigieg had a rough introduction to politics this year in his first run for public office. The South Bend Democrat lost the race for Indiana treasurer to Republican incumbent Richard Mourdock, 62 percent to 38 percent. But Buttigieg said he has no regrets about taking on Mourdock, his investment strategies and his effort last year to block Chrysler's bankruptcy with a lawsuit filed on behalf of state pension funds. "Sometimes standing up for what you believe gets you killed at the polls," he said matter-of-factly. "You have to accept that. That's part of politics."

Republicans may have as many as 58 members in the House after seizing control from the Democrats. With Republicans controlling the governor's office and both the House and the Senate, legislators from the most heavily Democratic part of the state could find it difficult to get things accomplished, especially with the area seemingly out of favor with the governor.

A complaint is being filed with the office of the Indiana Attorney General.

Secretary of State candidate Vop Osili, State Treasurer candidate Pete Buttigieg and State Auditor candidate Sam Locke left an Indianapolis union hall Friday morning in two minivans and an SUV, cheered by some 20 sign-waving supporters.
