Indiana Democrats respond to State Senate Democratic Leader’s decision not to pursue gubernatorial bid

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Democratic Party Chair Dan Parker issued the following statement in response to the announcement that State Senate Democratic Leader Vi Simpson will not pursue a gubernatorial bid next year.

“Vi has been and will continue to be a tremendous leader for Indiana Democrats, and she has long championed issues that improve the lives of Hoosiers across our state. I know she spent a great deal of time making this decision, and her support stretches far beyond her home district.

“That’s why I’m excited that she will be working this year and in 2012 to recruit top-notch candidates who will win their Indiana State Senate races next year and help us build our caucus in that legislative body.

“Vi has demonstrated time and again that she knows how to fight for middle class Hoosiers and make sure that everyone has a voice in the political process. We’re lucky to have her as an advocate, and we look forward to working with her on these critical campaigns.”
