Indiana Democrats respond to Congressman Mike Pence’s announcement for Governor

INDIANAPOLIS —Indiana Democratic Party Chairman Dan Parker released the following statement on Congressman Mike Pence’s announcement that he is running for Governor of Indiana in 2012:

“Congressman Mike Pence loves Washington, so much so that he made his campaign announcement from there instead of heading back to the heartland and standing with the Hoosiers he wants to represent.

“Congressman Pence has spent a decade in Congress focusing on divisive issues rather than working for the people of Indiana. He has advocated shutting down the government over partisan squabbles, eliminating Medicare as we know it and giving tax breaks to oil companies profiting off high gas prices.

“It’s fair to say there aren’t many Republicans in Washington who are prouder partisans than Congressman Mike Pence, and that’s the kind of attitude that makes it impossible to get things done. A vitriolic critic with a megaphone does not a quality executive make, and he'd bring everything that's wrong with Washington back to Indiana.

“Hoosiers cherish compromise, and we need leadership that can go beyond party lines, work across the aisle to solve our economic challenges and create the jobs we so desperately need in Indiana. No part of that sentence describes Congressman Mike Pence.”
