Indiana Democratic Party orders new chair election in Huntington County

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Democratic Party State Central Committee voted over the weekend to accept original jurisdiction over the March 7, 2009, Huntington County reorganization and has called, per Indiana Democratic Party Rule 13(d)(7), a new election for County Chair on April 4, 2009.

The new election has been called due to the misuse of proxies during the original March 7 election. State party rules prohibit the use of proxies for county party reorganizations. County chair was the only contested election on March 7; the election of other county political officials is not disputed.

Indiana Democratic Party Chair Dan Parker has appointed Fifth Congressional District Democratic Chair Keith Clock to run the April 4 election, which will be held at 11 a.m. on April 4, 2009, at the Huntington County Democratic Headquarters, 20 North Jefferson Street, Huntington.

Candidates for Huntington County Chair must file with District Chair Clock at least 72 hours prior to the election.
