Indiana Democratic Party appeals Indiana Recount Commission decision in Charlie White case

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Democratic Party today filed an appeal in Marion Circuit Court requesting judicial review of the Indiana Recount Commission’s decision last month to allow indicted Secretary of State Charlie White to remain in office.

IDP Chair Dan Parker issued the following statement about the appeal:

“When he handed down the decision, Recount Commission Chair Tom Wheeler reprimanded Charlie White for going so close to the legal line between right and wrong that he got chalk dust on himself.

“In sports, a call that close merits additional scrutiny, and officials would send it up to the booth for replay. That’s what we’re asking the Marion Circuit Court to do in this case.

“The Indiana Recount Commission did not adhere to official rules of court or a traditional judicial process allowing parties access to information and individuals before the hearing. In the interest of all Hoosiers, we want to make sure this decision gets a full, fair review.”
