BREAKING: Citizens United PAC Endorses Tea Party Candidate Richard Mourdock

Another Republican Senator Threatens To Oppose Lugar's Re-election

INDIANAPOLIS -- U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar, who is seeking his seventh term in the Senate, got more bad news today when right-wing interest group Citizens United PAC announced that they are endorsing Lugar's Republican opponent, Tea Party candidate Richard Mourdock.

Also today, Lugar's colleague in the Senate, Republican Tea Party Senator Mike Lee of Utah announced that he is launching a new political action committee to take aim at incumbents like Lugar.

"The Tea Party is determined to take out Senator Lugar in next year's primary, and Richard Mourdock clearly has the kind of extreme policy positions that the Tea Party looks for in its candidates," said Indiana Democratic Party Chair Dan Parker. "Lugar's own polling shows that nearly half of all Republicans in Indiana disapprove of the job he's doing. After 35 years, Hoosiers are looking for an alternative, and right-wing interest groups are teaming up with Lugar's own colleagues in Washington to deliver the epitome of extreme: Richard Mourdock."

Just last month, the Club For Growth, a prominent Tea Party special interest group led by former Hoosier Congressman Chris Chocola, launched a six-figure ad buy attacking Lugar on television for his record on spending. Last week, the same group released a poll showing that Lugar trails his Tea Party primary opponent Richard Mourdock 34-32 percent.
