Bill to expand Ind. voter ID law stalls in HouseINDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A bill to expand Indiana's voter ID law has stalled in the General Assembly.
Current law allows people to vote on Election Day if they have a state or federal photo ID card, such as a driver's license, state ID or military ID.
Photo IDs issued by Indiana's public colleges and universities are also allowed, as long as they meet expiration date criteria.
A bill by Democratic Rep. Vern Tincher of Riley would have removed the expiration date requirement on college-issued IDs because some schools don't include dates on the cards. But opponents said the bill would weaken current law.
The House voted 50-48 for the bill Monday, but it takes 51 votes to pass or defeat a bill outright in the House. Tincher can seek another vote by a Wednesday deadline.
