Two weeks later, still no negotiation

Republicans sure are having a great time grandstanding while House Democrats stand united in support of Indiana’s middle class.

GOP lawmakers have ranted on the airwaves. They’ve made jokes at the expense of Hoosier workers. They’ve levied fines and issued threats.

Know what they haven’t done?

Negotiate in good faith.

House Speaker Brian Bosma has held one meeting with Minority Leader Pat Bauer to talk about the impasse. It was a good start, but Republicans still aren’t willing to even meet halfway on their destructive, anti-worker agenda.

It seems like Bosma and Governor Mitch Daniels would rather throw rocks at our public servants than try to come up with a way to continue this legislative session.

Democrats have stayed strong through it all.

Maybe they thought they’d break us with harsh words or financial penalties, but Indiana’s middle class is too important.

The democratic process is working, and we have you to thank. Your support has helped our lawmakers stand tall against Republican bullying.

I’ve received a number of e-mails from Hoosiers asking how they can help, and several have told me about efforts in their communities to make sure our lawmakers know we’re behind them.

Here’s a note from a supporter who organized an impromptu local campaign to raise money for snacks, water and basic supplies for Democrats in Urbana:

“I am overwhelmed by the show of support and kindness from so many on what was a short notice. I know they will be moved, touched, humbled, grateful – words will not do justice to the many, many, many cards, notes, banners, etc. I have received from so many of you and others in the community.”

That kind of support is what makes our state strong and helps us chart the right course for Hoosiers.

Thank you again. We’re going to keep up the fight and make sure Republicans understand that they can’t ram their anti-worker agenda through at the Statehouse!
